"come to school every single day looking like a fashionista, never come dressed badly - only ever come as a fashion designer" - director of fidm, on the first day of orientation.
when thats one of the first few things thats said at orientation, you know you're gonna like it already.
i have to say - i have never in my life been this excited about college, then again, fidm isn't like any other college. its practically the start of a really intense deadline driven competitive career, right now. already, before school has even started, we're applying to help out backstage at LA downtown fashion week, runway shows, official fashion week after-parties and what not. i.cannot.be.more.stoked. as busy as ive been in the last two years, im pretty sure its nothing compared to the next two thats about to come.
so this saturday was the freshman cocktail mixer at j lounge.
what better way to get to know people and have fun at the same time pre-orientation other than with a mixer? totallyy on it. tapas, cocktails and light conversation :) my favourite. i simply love how everyones sooo alike yet diverse and extremely driven.
after which, we walked back to our apartment to meet some usc people for the usc game on tv by the rooftop pool with beers and hotdogs.
that night, we thought we should start the school year with a night out of drinks and exploring the nightlife. so alyssa, sophie, rachel and i headed out for a mini night out in our (or, rather mikes) "party car" and did just that :)
first stop: bungalow on melrose
however, i must say, it didn't take us very long to get from this...
to this....
step one to tequila,
step two to tequila,
and by step 3, we were pretty much ready to rock it.
made a dash out of bungalow soon after (hahahahah alyssa)
and we were ready to party it up in our party car, music on full blast, heads stuck out the sunroof
we, weell, arrived at a couple of places i dont remember so well
but - all in good fun :)
woke up the next day for a new church i've recently settled into. its absolutely amazing, i'd totally recommend it to anyone who lives in LA. after which though, lina and i decided to pay a visit to chinatown because lina LOVES asian food :) heehee so do i. but apart from that, i looove sundays, theres just something light and free about it. somewhat carefree and happy
sundays also somehow feel like a day for new 'fun' things, making it perfect for lunch at chinatown. sunny yet breezy to boot :)
you know, one of the big perks about of los angeles has to be pinkberry. frolick just does nooot come close.
its sooooooo good :) its become my number one santa monica treat.
well, pinkberry and my hello kitty credit card.
about a week ago, adeline flew in from arizona to stay with me for the weekend.
ive missed her much :) and it was so nice having someone familiar.
cos as much as i like it here, i starting to miss everyone dearly.
usc frat parties at the row, free hot chocolate by the lobby of my apartment, new friends, awesome opportunities, it would be hard to leave now too.
in some ways, im just afraid for this friday to come when classes finally start for real, because i know just how much busier im going to become with deadlines on top of phi theta kappa, student council, and ccsa info meetings next week. yet, in some ways, im totally ready for it.
bring it on ♥
ian: do you really always see me with my hair up?? :/ hahaha i tie it up when im lazy or if it looks better with my outfit :P piper: i use panasonic lumix LX3 and the canon 500D kerry: oh cool, good luck :) if you like the industry im sure you'll LOVE it. christine: i got it from petit pois at paragon, look for my stylist jazreel and give her my name & describe the coreset, she'll help you for sure :) junni: thankss! i thought it was pretty cute too ;) sasha: isnt it cute? haha thanks. let me know if you want the website joycelyn: hahahaha yeah hes pretty talented nat: shopping is AMAZING school starts on friday but orientation has been great so far i love it but miss you guys incredibly incredibly much too, hows thing back home? i dont see you online anymore haha time difference probably :( hehe: i did! enjoy! yan: omg i miss you toooooo!!! how are things back home? you can always facebook mail me! :) anna: thank you so much kbox: yes i do hahaha but not as much as my sister to be honest, but the new season of project runway is being shot at my school hahaha
picking up where we left off now that i look back at these photos, it all seems so long ago.
but before i left, it was my grandma's 80th birthday. our family being big with the whole celebrations thing, a bash was thrown for her at xi yan - a private dining restaurant recently started by hong kong celebrity chef, jacky yu.
tucked away in craig road and reservations only, it's got to be one of singapores best kept secrets.
so the theme for the party was fuschia & red, thus, everyone was expected to come in tones of either colour...
everyone, except the guest of honor herself.
food was served, music was played as the presentations came on ... celebrations were definitely in order.
the thing i love most about our family is how closely knitted and spontaneous everyone is :)
check it out...
makes me smile everytime without fail :)
but even as more food came our way, we made sure we didn't miss out on any camera action
a week later, just three days before my flight, i decided that a small intimate gathering on the yacht would be a nice way to say bye to a few people - simply because im not quite the fan of sad goodbyes at the airport.
a small intimate gathering was what we wanted, a small intimate gathering was what we got :)
as people started arriving, i was glad i got to see (almost) everyone i wanted to see :)
and while we were at it, why not sing happy birthday too? a little farewell cum pre-birthday celebration, if you may.
i have to say, i absolutely LOVED my cake :) with ribbons, gorgeous adornments and even golden dust sprinkled all over the assorted-flavoured-mousse-filled-profiteroles, i couldn't ask asked for anything prettier. or yummier, for that matter. i was happy :)
as the night went on, 'who knows jerilyn best' quizzes were played, all in hopes of embarrassing me before i left. but you know - what happens of a yacht, stays on a yacht ;) ;)
and then without much warning, the boys started to go a little crazy.
that was when we knew for sure it was time to say goodnight...
some say its what happens at a party that makes a party, i say its what happens after ;)
the morning after was filled with waking each other up, breakfast by the sea, opening farewell gifts and letters and incredibly sad goodbyes.
its crazy to think that it was only a mere two weeks ago, and yet, so much change has happened since then. a new city, my own apartment, new friends, new routines -> ill be updating on my move to LA next :)
meanwhile, its not to say im not missing ya'll back home. because i amincredibly jealous that im missing out on F1 party season. still, i guess its always one or the other. you can't reaaaally always have the both of both worlds :) not totally, anyway.
♥
vincent: thank you :) im glad you like it. kathi: we must lynn! and heehee of course, are you saying you're not quote worthy? :P kbox: sorry for the delay! its here :) piper: i know, i know - talk about hectic. nat: heehee ill let you know if i want to sell it one day, along with the rest of my clothes :) kbox: oh yeah i didnt go for yam in the end because, i dont know i can't remember but i think there was too much going on that weekend :/ when im back in dec! reader: thank you how sweet :) kerry: i didn't take the SATS. i applied based on my IGCSE results along with lots of recommendations (it helps if you've done fashion design/art in high school and do really well), i also had to do a portfolio of 10 fully coloured designs so they base it alot on that as well, as well as an interview. where you thinking of applying? :) xianni: i did! miss you too babe :( A LOTTTTTT, in fact, i am going to call you soon. jeneen: wow, nice :) v: thanks sweetie, LA is great :) started off with lots of unpacking and all but im all settled now - will update about that soon :) ian: you like? ;) hahahaha thank you
i know its been forever since i last updated - but moving to a new country, unpacking, settling down, finding your way around and getting adjusted is unbelievably, unbelievably time-consuming. so i apologize for the hiatus. but LA is an amazing place - theres simply everything you could possibly possibly need here.
and britney last night was absolutelyyy, insanely, amazing
by far the best concert ive been to so far :) which girl doesn't love britney, really?
buuuut, more on LA soon, and where i left off in singapore will try to update in the next few days - as soon as i get my act together. stay tuned. missing everyone back home much xoxoxo
ive been incredibly incredibly busy. catching up with everyone, getting things for my trip & starting to pack (i didn't realise it was going to take this long), parties / birthdays / celebrations, paperwork. its insane - i guess packing up for 2 years isnt easy. two years doesn't seem that long, but if you really think about it, a year passes by pretty slowly when you're thinking about it, and so much can happen in just a year. right now, i have time to type this only because im up waiting for an email from LA to complete my student visa (long story dont ask). when youre tired and theres much to do (even if some of it is fun), it gets pretty damn stressful. at the same time though, its really exciting, the fact that im moving is finally starting to feel so real right now.
meet my newest friend, cas :) we recently had lunch at the new much-talked-about restaurant, spruce.
it was nice. with dempsey being slightly passe, its nice having more chill lowkey restaurants popping up :) not that im really gonna be here to enjoy them - but you know, still.
cas and i came up with the conclusion that acs girls just kind of have this connection - which is why we got along so well, so quickly.
i was listening to 987fm last night and they were talking about tips on 'how to be the perfect boyfriend'. at some point, they explained that, 'girls like to talk about their feelings'. its starting to dawn on me how true that is. i mean, isn't that what we girls usually bond over (gossip and shopping aside)? 'how we feel about something, how we're feeling today/now, how we're feeling about a certain person, how we feel about moving/a new school/growing up etc'
i love the feeling of meeting someone and instantly having this common frequency - where conversation becomes simply natural and theres something to add onto everything said.
-i hate it when you say something and the guy just keeps quiet. -i dont like it when people get too comfortable with each other to the point where they simply dont bother talking or being present when they're around each other. -i hate missing people and not having the person be there.
a few hours ago, i got back from my sister's house where i babysat jaeden in the day
after which, we had a 'sisters-night' where we cuddled up on a couch watching the notebook over homemade valrhona hot chocolate, marshmallows, mini cupcakes and pretzels.
a movie about the people you are meant to be with and the ones you settle for.
the thing about romantic movies like that is that you grow to believe and long for the perfect fairytale romance - and maybe initially it is. but ultimately, is there really such a thing as a perfect romance, even years later?
kathi once said, "i think love should be impulsive. something that you cant get out of your mind, nor your heart. something that cannot be stopped.
but what happens when the adrenaline fades? what if tomorrow redefines the word love? what if the intensity of it all leaves you numb, dry and withering.
love should be impulsive, but shouldn't it be stable as well?"
while love should definitely be stable, i think it should be impulsive and passionate as well. because, whats love with stability but without an undying passion for each other? whats love if youre no longer inseparable from each other?
anyhows, sleep calls :( ill be back with more, as soon as i find the time. hang in there.
